Cleft palate is an uncommon congenital defect resulting in the partial or full failure of closure of the palatal folds in early embryologic development. It is the malformation of the soft and sometimes hard palate where the left and right side fail to unite, forming a cleft. The extent of clinical signs varies depending on the severity of the defect. Milk is usually observed running out of one or both of the nostrils of the kid.
